Anthony Terrence O'Carroll

Following Anthony O’Carroll’s successful first Solo Exhibition at Harris Courtin Gallery in 2003, his artistic vision has been recognised and rewarded. In 2005, and for the third consecutive year, one of his works has been selected to hang in the Brett Whiteley Travelling Art Scholarship Award Finalists Exhibition, currently showing at the Brett Whiteley Studio in Surry Hills. Also in 2005, Anthony was a finalist in the Tim Olsen Drawing Prize and the Lloyd Rees Memorial Youth Award. In 2004 he won the Art Gallery of New South Wales’ Elioth Gruner Prize for the best study of a landscape in oils by an art student.
In his undergraduate studies, Advanced Diploma in Fine Arts Stages I, II and III (with High Distinction in each stage) completed in 2000 at St George College TAFE Kogarah, Anthony received many commendations, including the Highest Achievement Award, and the Peter Wright Memorial Print Making Prize. He obtained his Masters of Art (by Coursework) with Distinction in 2004, and is currently undertaking a Masters of Fine Arts (by Research) majoring in Painting, at UNSW College of Fine Arts (COFA).
His work has been shown in over twenty Group and Prize Exhibitions (see details in his CV), and is in private collections in Australia, USA, UK, Hong Kong and Switzerland.

Anthony explores the visual relationship between the landscape and the built environment, in particular, the frontality of the wall. In responding to these stimuli, he states that “Through the effects of time and weathering these two aspects are inextricably linked. His current body of work provides a glimpse into the tactile qualities of these two differing subjects, and the influence of external forces that they share”.
