An exhibition James Anthony Ford. A series of shadow and assemblage installations that deconstruct Ford’s memory of role playing as a child. Opening drinks Saturday April 11, 2-4pm

James Anthony Ford creates playful artworks that explore childhood identity and role play; the iconic attributes perceived as a child, such as the role of power, respect, discipline and masculinity.
“8 Shades of Play” is a series of shadow and assemblage installations that deconstruct Ford’s memory of playing specific roles as a child. Found objects are assembled into free-standing sculptures that alone are fascinating and fun to view. Ford
adds an LED light to each assemblage to create a shadow portrait that takes the viewer beyond the collection of domestic objects before them to a second layer, a shadow layer, a darker story…

Each installation hints at a personal narrative with both its ephemeral moments of joy and form of escapism, from a demanding stepfather. James Ford has elaborated;
“This would account for the many chosen roles I played as a child which often related to the desire for power, authority and discipline. It was also a form of confirming my own masculinity.”

Art can be found in the shadows too!

OPENING DRINKS: Saturday 11 April, 2 – 4pm
