World-renowned British printmaker Brenda Hartill is a leading member of the Royal Society of Painter Printmakers who holds exhibitions and workshops in Sussex, England and southern Spain. In 2005 she wrote “Collagraphs and Mixed Media Printmaking”, a handbook widely used by artists and art institutions in Australia and Britain.
Dale Falkner of Falkner Gallery is delighted to present an exhibition of Brenda’s work in Castlemaine commencing 4 February for 8 weeks. Entitled “Alchemy”, the exhibition consists of over 50 collagraphs, embossings and etchings.
Brenda finds inspiration for her abstract collagraphs in the natural forms, light and textures of the landscape – her images suggest the very essence of nature. Heavily textured surfaces and intense colours, often embellished with gold, copper and silver leaf are applied to thick hand-made paper. The deckle edge of the paper adds to the natural quality conveyed, rather like a sheet of flattened tree bark.
