ROOTS IN BEAUT UTES

15/Mar/2005 - 9/Apr/2005

VENUE: The Beatty Gallery est 1993

Introducing Brisbane- based artist Migs Chavez who uses the classic Australian 60s ute to express his ambivalence about the promise of a sunny, relaxed, bbq & beach-going life style which he missed so much whilst overseas, couple with the meanacing undercurrent of racism, conservatism and 'I'm alright, fuck you jack' attitude he rediscovered on his return. Elegant, modern canvas screen prints. The car he loves but can't fully own, represents the country he loves but can't fully embrace.
