Mixed media on paper by PHILIP CORDINGLEY

Philip Cordigley worked for 30 years in the graphic design and photographic mediums, primarily in television. During and since that time, he has participated in a number of solo and group exhibitions. In 2006 he was a finalist in both the Swan Hill Regional Art Gallery Print and Drawing Acquisitive Award and the Robert Jacks Drawing Prize at Bendigo Art Gallery.
His exhibition “Travelogue” consists of works on paper with a theme he believes is “based on our sense of ‘place’ and the notion of ‘exploration’ and its consequences. The definition of Travelogue: “A film, book or illustrated lecture about a person’s travels” may be too narrow. As we travel from A to B and experience life, the conclusions reached help define who we are and how we interact with others, be they animal, vegetable or mineral.”
Philip has used the linocut medium and a primitive printing technique overlaid with hand written text to create individual ‘prints’. His is a kind of personal iconography which incorporates typography and line in an organic yet graphic way.
