David Mellows is a Western Australian descended from first settlers and grew up with the basic instruction of get a real job. This meant leaving the arts and design aside while doing the regular 40hours and five days. a long time as a key player in the drag racing scene of the west. Being Meeting Director or state correspondant for the national press of the sport did not satisfy completely and when a few dollars became available a racing bike was built. As He was already doing a drawing class in the TAFE system the retraining went to Diploma and University entrance. An impressive entry/result ratio in competitions in WA, critical support and an enthusiasm for results armed David for a trip to Melbourne with a new partner. The most satisfaction the artist gets is from hearing the buyers' narrative, how they saw themselves in the painting. These tales are of the continuing reality of life , which is what the prints and paintings are to the artist.
