About the artist Fern Smith:Fern is a practicing artist for twenty-one years; since her first exhibition at the Theatre Gallery in Canberra.
People have asked many times; what are you working on? “One day maybe the perfect expression will occur in a painting where there is depth of feeling, change in an unchanging world, love, compassion and ultimate respect of the individual; these are the conflicting tensions I work with.” Fern often chooses a social subject matter drawn from academic research papers, books, media news (television, papers and magazines) and personal accounts. Fern visually interprets the information with her own guiding principles of compassion and respect.
