Born Manchester, England 1947. Educated Cambridge New Zealand.

Kate Smith resides in Australia. Her career spans some 33 years. A self taught artist with a spontaneous vision and a fine interpreter of colour, she commenced a full time career in 1973 beginning with pastel and watercolour mediums.

Kate is a multi award-winning artist, with many art awards to her credit. Her classic yet highly contemporary figurative images have been instrumental in making her a most sort after artist with many of her works finding their way into Australian regional State galleries, private and corporate collections both here and overseas.

Her art is arresting in its simplicity, but offers an insight into femininity and womanhood. The main ingredients are a quick wit and whimsy combined with velvety colour. Although pastel is her favourite medium Kate has worked in oils, watercolour and acrylics creating a diversity of visual art.
