Joy Engelman is a regional Australian Artist based in Central NSW with over 35 years of experience in teaching, practising and exhibiting in the visual arts. With many solo and selected group exhibitions behind her, Joy has received over 20 awards for both her artwork and her commitment to the arts community. She has recently been awarded the Lorenzo il Magnifico Award for Painting (5th Primo), a Medici Medal for Art at the 2007 Florence Biennale, the highlight of her career to date.

Engelman has been invited back to Italy to exhibit at Estense Castle in Ferrara Italy later in 2008. She has also been approached by Galleria Mentana to exhibit in Florence. Indeed over the past 12 years, she has been regularly invited to exhibit internationally, but has only recently been able to take up these opportunities.

Her work is represented in many overseas and national collections and she is included in several anthologies. Engelman has developed and co-ordinated several public arts projects including CONTEMPORANEA 2010 as well as mentoring other artists. Engelman is best known for her landscapes although the artist also explores other areas.

Current major works are explorations of outback Australia from an aerial perspective mapping the terrain and waterways. A focus on Climate Change and how it affects the Australian landscape continues as a theme during 2008-2011. Having traveled extensively throughout the desert regions, Engelman is very familiar with the colours, textures and patterns of these areas. Of European descent, but born in Australia, she explores how we all have been inspired and influenced by this sacred place.
