ANCIENT RHYTHMS

30/Oct/2004 - 23/Jan/2005

VENUE: Araluen Galleries

Ancient Rhythms is an exhibition of drawings in black and white, all made on location by Julie Taylor, using charcoal on paper.

A selection of large and small works reveal melodies and rhythms found amongst the trees and ranges of Central Australia. Ancient patterns of erosion on steep slopes and the twists and curves of corkwood tree bark are featured. The exhibition includes a series of drawings devoted to a rare stand of corkwood trees beside the Hugh River, near Alice. Once magnificent, they were tragically destroyed by fire several years ago. Unlike many other native plants, regrowth is extremely slow. Charcoal for these drawings has been donated by the charred trees themselves.
