Zoo Dog
Carolyn Graham describes her interest in animals as having stemmed from her first sighting of hunting dogs at the Melbourne zoo. She claims that wild animals in particular, scare and yet fascinate her. “There couldn’t be more difference between us - me so tame and predictable and they so unfathomable.”
Her linocuts, woodcuts and etchings in the exhibition “Birds and Beasts” are in small editions and have the same spontaneous, scratched markings that were so effective in her Central Victorian landscapes which she exhibited at Falkner Gallery in 2004. Her subjects include lithe, leaping hunting dogs, whimsical pigs and haunted owls among others.
