Johnston's work is highly emotive and a visual expression of colour and simplistic form. The exhibition BOXES AND CROSSES represents turbulent states of mind: chaos, confusion and calamity. The figurative motifs are of utmost importance to Johnston: they float, dive and often escape into a world of their own. The works are about acceptance of oneself in an arena that is constantly requiring a square peg to fit into a round hole.
