"Botanical Symbols of the Goddess" by JULIE MILLOWICK
The goddess does her washing
The goddess does her washing

Using plants to reference the botanical symbols of Ceres, Demeter, Gaia, Flora and Persephone, Millowick uses the vintage techniques of the photogram and cyanotype to create pure, seductive and sometimes ghostly images of everyday plants. These techniques allow us to see plants in a completely different and mysterious way.

Photograms and cyanotype are made by placing an object onto sensitive paper, exposing it to light, then developing it in the normal way. Film is not used. A camera is not used.
This technique celebrates and acknowledges the very basis of photogaphy - ie the use of light. Each image is unique - there is no negative or digital file.
