Eureka Deep
Deborah Blakeley’s works are abstracted aerial views of Central Victoria. The use of antique maps combined with contemporary textile techniques of applique and free-machining suggest the landscape and settlements of this area. Wrapped sticks, scattered beads and embroidered fine fabrics and threads give clues to the past riches of the goldfields as well as to the fragility of this land. The visitor searches for gold in this harsh yet beautiful place.
