The RAKA Award was established to honour the memory of Bernard Smith’s late wife, Kate Challis. RAKA is an acronym for the Ruth Adeney Koori Award. The category for 2003 is the visual arts. Artists include: Vernon Ah Kee (Qld), Lorraine Connelly (Vic), Sylvia Huege De Serville (WA), Julie Dowling (WA), Dorothy Galaledba (NT), Gordon Hookey (NSW), Roy Kennedy (NSW), Ricky Maynard (TAS), Ivan Namirrkki (NT), Trevor Nickolls (SA), Janice Peacock (Qld), Wingu Tingima (NT) and Tommy Watson (NT).
