ART 6 ON SEX is an exhibition of brave and controversial works by six of Melbourne’s leading Queer Artists, taking on SEX and POLITICS. The exhibition attempts to address the lack of politics in current arts trends and practice.
Worn Left Worn RIght
At a time when banal abstractions, flower paintings and landscapes attempt to pacify and distract us from our anxieties, the artists in this exhibition examine the injustices, the open wounds and the paradoxes of the way our sexuality, politics, law making and consumerism is shaping the world we know. It explores the interplay and complexities between ‘the personal ‘and our greater connection to mainstream society.
“So much of arts practice today is not intended to challenge. It all about whether or not it’s going to go with a buyers couch. People are afraid of challenge, agitation, social commentary and truth in art. The idea behind curating the ART 6 exhibitions is to give artists a space to say exactly what they want to, in any way they want to, without the pressure of having to make sales or satisfy an art dealer or whatever impedes them from doing what they want to artistically…” Travis de Jonk
ART 6 ON SEX showcases artists working across a range of artistic practices, including Photography, Painting, Sculpture, and Multi Media. Featuring: Ross Brownsdon, Ian Buckland, Kevin Ciu, Grant Cook, Travis de Jonk and Geoff Seelander.
