Alfred Gregory was a member of John Hunt's British team that made the first ascent of Mt Everest in 1953. He reached 8,500 metres in support of the successful Hillary/Tenzing assault and was resposible for the expedition stills photography.
In the 50 years since, he and his photographer wife Suzanne have conducted numerous photographic expeditions throughout the world.
“Timeless Threads” summarises their expeditions using the underlying theme of traditional clothing, jewellery and crafts created and worn in times past. The artists’ empathy with their subjects and their knowledge of the religion, culture and way of life of such remote and exotic peoples are illustrated in each composition. Their photographs are true portraits of geography and culture. They depict and are the threads that link all humanity from times past and present.
